Who is the Princess of Gossip?

I have to admit that when I started helping with the kids' poetry slam a few months back, I thought it would be pretty cool and I could teach them a few things. Boy was I wrong. They're the ones teaching me.
I've been going every week for months, and every time I get there, there's this little girl, probably no more than 10 or so, sitting in the back corner. She usually has her arms crossed and this "don't mess with me" look on her face, but even so I tried talking to her the first few weeks. She never really responded, but I kept trying, even if all I did was say hey when I got there each time and bye on my way out. I kind of figured she was there because her teachers or her parents made her, and she'd disappear just as soon as they let her. I mean, it has to get boring just sitting there staring for an hour every week.
So anyway, I show up this week, and there she is, still in her corner, still kind of scowling at everyone in the general vicinity. But then, at the end, when I asked if anyone wanted to share what they'd been working on, she raised her hand. She didn't stand up or come to the front like most of the kids do. She just sat there and read this mind-blowing poem - AMAZING, as Avery would say - and then she looked up at me and said, "one day I want to be a songwriter just like you, Griffin." I told her I was sure she could, and she just nodded and crossed her arms again.
I think I better get back to writing now - finish that song that I've been working on for weeks. If that little girl can do it, then so can I.
